It's a lot easier to keep up with your fitness goals when your home gym is only a few steps away. But even with the seemingly endless choices of exercise regimes available on YouTube, at-home workouts still limit your options. That's where fitness mirrors come in.

These smart devices offer an immersive audio and visual experience with personal trainers, classes, and more. By bringing the energy of a gym and the guidance of a trainer right into your living room, a fitness mirror is as close to having a live-in personal trainer as you can get. Certified Pilates and yoga instructor Karina Blackwood says the convenience and flexibility alone make fitness mirrors worth the high price tag. She explains that the cost may even add up to less than some gym memberships over time.

But she says the real-time feedback on your form, posture, and alignment is what will really upgrade your sweat sessions. "Having expert guidance at your fingertips ensures that you perform exercises correctly and efficiently," she says, adding that the interactive capability helps you "maintain proper technique during exercises, reducing the risk of injury and maximizing the effectiveness of your workouts."

To find the top fitness mirrors on the market, we tested them at home for a month, taking note of everything from how easy they were to set up to how extensive their workout libraries were. We consulted Blackwood for her expert opinion on how fitness mirrors can help you get a more intense workout. We also had a certified personal trainer from our Review Board review this story for accuracy, the best way to shop for a fitness mirror, and how to use one safely.

After over 400 hours of testing, we've rounded up the best fitness mirrors that are actually worth the money.

  • Intuitive workout class recommendations

  • Sleek, stylish design

Cons
  • No included accessories

Offering pretty much any workout you can think of—from Vinyasa yoga to dance cardio to weight training—the lululemon Mirror's extensive workout library and intuitive interface make it our top overall pick. We love the sleek, modern design, which is both stylish and space-saving. Plus, setting it up is simple: During the (free!) delivery process, you can ask lululemon’s team to mount it to your wall or use it as a floor mirror, a major perk for renters.

In minutes, we were able to connect our Apple Watch and Strava profile to help track our progress, heart rate, statistics, and more. But besides the simple installation process, we were also impressed by the Mirror’s extensive class list. Get your morning started with a quick, 15-minute workout or join an hour-long live-streamed barre class with a trainer. A recent update also includes babywearing classes, so you can exercise right along with your little one.

With the purchase of a monthly membership, you get unlimited classes and live feedback from trainers while you work out. As you sweat, we love that the Mirror remembers your preferences and recommends new classes to you every week. Blackwood also appreciates the Mirror’s high-definition and distortion-free display, which she says is key for those hard-to-mimic Pilates moves. In testing, we noticed that it functions perfectly as a regular mirror when the smart features are turned off, doubling its uses in your home.

The initial investment is definitely steep, but the monthly cost is a fraction of what you'd pay at most gyms. Even though all accessories, like weighted bangles and a heart rate monitor, are sold separately, none of them are essential to reap the benefits of the lululemon Mirror's engaging, high-energy classes.

Pros
  • Smart feedback during classes

  • All included accessories can be stored in the mirror

  • High-tech audio options

Cons
  • Only specific workouts offer feedback

  • App has limited functionality

If you can’t get enough strength training, you'll love Tempo's 3D-mapping technology. Using information it gathers from the included color-coded smart weights and mat, this feature provides real-time feedback on your squats, presses, curls, and other movements. During testing, this looked like an alert flashing during a HIIT workout advising us to choose lighter weights because they were interfering with our form.

Unfortunately, this feedback is only available during strength training and HIIT classes, although Tempo may expand it to yoga and barre classes soon. While Tempo’s streaming library is more limited than others we tested, we love that you can sign up for live classes in advance and stream your own music. Another handy feature is the ability to change the volume of the music and the trainer independently, so you can stay motivated without wondering what’s coming next.

We’re also impressed by how many accessories come with the Starter model. You get the mirror, a 5-millimeter workout mat, two 7.5-pound dumbbells, four weight collars, and 75 pounds of weights. Other options include the Plus for an additional fee (which comes with a small weight bench, a foam roller, and heavier weights) or the Pro (which has a weight rack for the bench, plus more small accessories to round out your home gym). Even better, all of these accessories can be stored in the Starter’s built-in cabinet.

If you want more guidance and personalized feedback, you'll have to pay extra for one-on-one sessions with professional trainers. We also found that the Tempo app left a lot to be desired. It can help you schedule classes but doesn’t connect to the mirror, meaning its functions are pretty limited. Even so, we love the Tempo Studio for frequent weightlifters looking to upgrade their home gyms.

Pros
  • Library includes mindfulness classes

  • Personal trainer included with membership

  • Sleek, intuitive design

Cons
  • No included accessories

  • Can’t stream your own music

Many of today's fitness mirrors offer personal training at an additional cost. But the FORME Studio stands out for its live personal training sessions that are included with each monthly subscription.

After a very intuitive setup process, the mirror links you with a PT based on your goals and preferred training style. We love how in-depth the initial consultation was and how detailed the trainers’ guidance is. Our tester met with her trainer four times a week and was even given a supplemental strength training plan to complete on her off days.

Another unique feature is FORME’s library of mindfulness classes. The mirror's team of instructors will guide you through meditations, breathing exercises, and affirmations to help you de-stress and set intentions. As for the mirror itself, it fits easily in most spaces and has a convenient touchscreen for easy navigation. There’s also the FORME app, which (while not required to use the mirror) can help you track your progress and access on-demand workouts.

One downside is that we wish it came with at least some weights, bands, or other equipment, for the price. A barre attachment and a workout mat are available to purchase separately. Also, unlike the Tempo Studio and lululemon Mirror, you can't stream your own music during classes. But if your goal is to start working with a trainer from the comfort of your own home, we highly recommend the FORME Studio.

Pros
  • Comes with over 20 accessories

  • Built-in storage

  • Library includes mindfulness classes

Cons
  • Can’t stream your own music

  • No real-time feedback

One major drawback of building an at-home gym is the expense that comes with stocking it—and some fitness mirrors, like the FORME Studio, still require you to supply your own equipment. But NordicTrack's Vault: Complete comes with everything you need to get started, including weights, kettlebells, resistance bands, yoga blocks, a mat, and more.

The best part? It all stores away seamlessly in the mirror’s built-in shelves, keeping clutter out of your living space. We also love how high-quality the accessories feel, which was surprising, given how many are included.

Unlike with lululemon’s Mirror, white glove delivery and assembly with the Vault will run you an extra fee. We also noticed some issues with setting the mirror up, including some updates and error messages that delayed the process. This was a common theme throughout the testing period—the mirror froze multiple times while we used it, although unplugging and plugging it back in quickly fixed the issue.

While it doesn't come with the live form-correcting and feedback some mirrors provide, the Vault’s reflective screen allows you to see yourself as you exercise. However, we did find ourselves wishing that we could view the trainer from different angles during classes or rewind when we missed a rep. And although NordicTrack does offer an extensive library of classes (including yoga and mindfulness sessions), you can't stream your own music during workouts.

Pros
  • Smart digital weight system adjusts automatically

  • Library includes highly specific workouts

  • Provides personalized recommendations based on your goals

Cons
  • No included accessories

With its high-end construction and impressive library of classes, including basic workouts, Theragun massage routines, and even cross-training for golfers, it's no surprise that the Tonal mirror comes with a hefty price tag. But with the amount of personalized attention Tonal provides, we think it’s well worth the investment—as long as you also purchase the Smart Accessories package.

Tonal’s high-end experience was evident from the minute we ordered our mirror. Before the delivery day, the company asked about our available space, our building, and even the studs in our walls. Although you’ll need to do the necessary prep work to determine if you have the right requirements prior to purchasing, the added research and communication made us feel confident throughout the ordering process. The actual installation took three skilled Tonal techs 30 minutes from start to finish.

What really sets the Tonal apart is its adjustable digital weight system. Our tester, a personal trainer, loved how the mirror measured her power during strength-training sets and automatically added more weight if she exceeded a certain threshold. It also lowered the weight during recovery workouts. Tonal’s personalized recommendations based on your health, wellness, and fitness goals are another great addition that we thought upped the mirror’s value even more.

While we love the Tonal’s high-tech, luxury user experience, we found that it’s not worth the expense unless you also purchase the Smart Accessories add-on. But if the full package is in your budget, we’re confident the Tonal will revolutionize your at-home workouts.

  • iFit offers a large library of workout classes

  • Includes storage for weights

Cons
  • Heavy and bulky

  • No white glove delivery

Gyms and intimate studio classes can be intimidating, especially if you're just getting started on your fitness journey. But with ProForm's Vue, you can practice virtually any workout in the comfort of your own home.

This mirror comes with all the essential equipment you’ll need to get started, including dumbbells, barbells, and weight plates. And we like that the weights can be discreetly stored behind the mirror using the included, convenient hooks.

We love the wide variety of workouts that the iFit platform provides, especially the ones dedicated to improving your form, but they're not unique to the Vue. You can purchase an iFit membership separately for a lot less cash and enjoy the same classes without all the extra bells and whistles. Still, being able to see ourselves and the instructor in the mirror at the same time made the classes much more engaging.

The biggest downside is that you’ll have to set up the mirror yourself, and the pieces are heavy and bulky. Also, note that this mirror can’t be hung on the wall, so you’ll need some floor space to set it up. If these minor drawbacks don’t bother you, we think the Vue is a smart purchase if you’re starting to build your home gym.

How We Rated the Fitness Mirrors

4.8 to 5 stars: These are the best fitness mirrors we tested. We recommend them without reservation.

4.5 to 4.7 stars: These fitness mirrors are excellent—they might have minor flaws, but we still recommend them.

4.0 to 4.5 stars: We think these are great fitness mirrors, but others are better.

3.5 to 3.9 stars: These fitness mirrors are just average.

3.4 and below: We don't recommend fitness mirrors with this rating; you won't find any on our list.

How We Selected and Tested the Fitness Mirrors

To choose the best fitness mirrors, we first spend hours researching the top models on the market. Then, we select a range of models from the most popular brands at different price points to test for ourselves in the real world. Over the course of a month, we try each mirror and observe the setup process, how easy it is to use, and whether it helps us achieve our fitness goals.

When the mirrors arrive, we pay attention to the delivery and installation, including whether it’s up to us or a technician. How easy is it to make a profile? Does the mirror require any technical knowledge or updates before we can use it? If it comes with any accessories, do they feel cheap or high-quality?

Then, we complete our first workout using the mirrors. As the class or personal training session progresses, we note any features that stand out. Are the classes fun and engaging or boring? Are they challenging enough? Can we track our metrics and statistics during each class?

We use the mirrors at least three times per week as part of our regular workout routines. We make sure to try a range of different classes and trainers to get a full picture of the experience each mirror offers. At the end of the testing period, we rate each fitness mirror on a scale of 1 (would not recommend) to 5 (would recommend) in six key categories: ease of setup, ease of use, performance, features, design, and metrics. Most importantly, we note whether or not the mirror motivated us to reach our fitness and wellness goals.

We also considered each mirror’s durability and warranty, if applicable, and consulted personal trainer Karina Blackwood for her expert opinion on how fitness mirrors can enhance at-home workouts. We combined her insights with our data to compile our final list of recommendations.

Fitness Mirrors We Also Tested

While we liked that Echelon’s Reflect Touch Smart Fitness Mirror has a large library of workouts so we could switch up our routines, the exercises felt repetitive and a bit too easy. It doesn’t offer many live classes, and we wish it came with some accessories or equipment. And like the Tempo Studio, the app doesn’t add much to the overall experience. But we appreciate that it has meditation sessions and fun boxing classes, which set it apart from other mirrors we tested.

What to Look for in a Fitness Mirror

Size

Most fitness mirrors are pretty sleek, but they can vary in terms of size. Our top picks range from 50 to 72 inches tall and 20 to 26 inches wide. If you’re looking for a more immersive experience, you may want to spring for a larger mirror. Otherwise, you can save space by opting for a smaller one. It’s also good to note their depth, as we were surprised at how far some of these mirrors stuck out from our walls. This can be an issue with mirrors that have added storage for equipment, like ProForm’s Vue. Either way, we recommend measuring your wall or floor space before making a purchase to ensure your fitness mirror won’t be a hassle (or an eyesore).

Installation

Certain fitness mirrors are wall-mounted, while others are freestanding. Some, like lululemon’s Mirror, can be set up either way. A few brands offer white glove delivery and installation, which is key if you’re going the wall-mounted route and don’t want to hang up a heavy mirror by yourself. Each installation method has its own pros and cons: While wall-mounted mirrors are more space-efficient, they require you to put holes in your wall, which isn’t great for renters. Freestanding mirrors can be easier to set up, but they also demand more floor space. The option that’s right for you depends on your space and personal preferences.

Features

Part of the reason why fitness mirrors are so expensive is because of the high-tech features they offer. The right add-ons can make the difference between a mirror you use to try on clothes and one you’ll actually work out with. Blackwood recommends purchasing a mirror that offers interactive features, like real-time feedback, biometric tracking, and performance statistics, which can help keep you motivated to reach your goals. Also, look for capabilities that streamline your workout and make it more enjoyable, like included accessories and the ability to listen to your own music. Although it has a high price tag, Tonal’s fitness mirror offers all of these features, making it one of our top picks.

Workout Library

Most fitness mirrors have a library of workouts that’s specific to the brand or the mirror itself. Most of these libraries require a monthly subscription to access—an additional cost outside of the mirror. Many subscriptions provide access to HIIT, strength training, yoga, and cardio classes (some of which are live). A few even offer wellness classes, like breathwork and meditation. Trying to use a fitness mirror without a membership subscription will severely limit its capabilities, so choosing a mirror that offers the kinds of classes you enjoy is key to making the most of your purchase.

Free Trial Period

Fitness mirrors are new and expensive—exactly the kind of thing you want to test out before buying. Thankfully, many mirrors come with a 30-day free trial period. Before buying, be sure to double-check which costs are included in the free trial and which ones aren’t. Some brands will charge you delivery and installation fees, which may not be a part of your free trial.

Additional Accessories

If your ideal fitness plan includes strength training, you may want to opt for a mirror that comes with its own set of weights and other exercise equipment, like Tempo’s Studio. Some mirrors come with smart equipment that adjusts itself, tracks your metrics, and provides real-time feedback while you work out. If your mirror doesn’t come with any accessories, you can always stock up with pieces from your favorite fitness brands separately. We love NordicTrack’s Vault: Complete because it comes with over 20 accessories, including everything you need to get started.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What are the benefits of fitness mirrors?

According to Blackwood, there are several benefits of using a fitness mirror. They provide a convenient way to work out, which can make you more consistent with your routine. They can also help you maintain proper technique and form, especially if they offer real-time feedback. And they have a wide variety of classes to keep your workouts engaging, so you don’t get bored.

  • Can your fitness mirror trainer see you?

Usually, yes. Many fitness mirrors (like our top overall pick, lululemon’s Mirror) come with cameras that allow trainers to check your form and offer real-time feedback.

  • How much space do you need near the mirror to work out?

It depends on the mirror. Some brands state that all you need is enough room to stand in front of the mirror to complete their workouts. However, others recommend a space that measures 7 feet long, 7 feet wide, and 7 feet tall to prevent injuries while you exercise.
